Established in 2018, the Hebei Province (Chengde) Hawthorn Industry Technology Research Institute is a comprehensive scientific platform dedicated to hawthorn-specific research. Based at Chengde Ruitai Food Co., Ltd., and founded on the "Hebei Hawthorn Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance", it has formed an expert advisory committee comprising specialists from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing Institute of Technology, Tianjin Agricultural College, and Hebei Agricultural University. The institute undertakes 32 research projects, including studies on hawthorn flavanols, dietary fiber, and hawthorn polysaccharides for type 2 diabetes prevention, with 12 projects having completed experimental and theoretical verification.
The Research Institute, based on the "Hebei Hawthorn Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance" and led by the "Academician Workstation", is a comprehensive scientific platform dedicated to hawthorn-specific research. With a total investment of 40.75 million yuan, it currently has 9,569 square metres of infrastructure including R&D centre offices and product testing technology pilot production workshops.

The Research Institute was established in accordance with the Provincial Science and Technology Department's documents "Ji Ke Ping Han No. 44" and "Ji Ke Ping Han [2018] No. 23", and the County Government's document "Xing Zheng Pi [2018] No. 22". Following the principle of "government guidance, diversified investment, market operation, and joint construction by government, industry, academia and research", it is supported by Chengde Ruitai Food Co., Ltd. The institute is jointly built by the County Government, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Food Research Institute, Beijing Forestry University, domestic research institutions, Tianjin Agricultural College, Hebei Agricultural University, Hebei Normal University, and enterprises including Chengde Xinao Food, Chengde Benduobao Biotechnology, and Chengde Chaosu Machinery. Academician Yin Weilun from the Chinese Academy of Engineering serves as the chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee, while Dr Bi Jinfeng, a leading talent from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, researcher, doctoral supervisor, and chief scientist of the Fruit and Vegetable Food Manufacturing and Nutrition Science Team, serves as the Executive Dean.
